For our client, a large public sector organisation in the Netherlands, we are looking for a Mainframe Engineer to develop and maintain business-critical Cobol and DB2 applications that support high-volume payment and data processes.

At the heart of its IT landscape runs a mainframe platform that processes enormous volumes of data and payments every year, with reliability and accuracy as absolute priorities. As Mainframe Engineer you join a multidisciplinary Agile team of designers, developers, testers and architects that keeps this platform modern, stable and future-proof. What you will do: - Design, build and maintain Cobol applications on a z/OS mainframe platform - Work with DB2 databases and write efficient SQL for high-volume batch and online processing - Translate functional requirements into robust technical solutions under architecture - Independently implement changes to existing software, build new programs and carry out technical improvements - Contribute to modernisation initiatives, automated testing and continuous integration on the mainframe - Collaborate in a Scrum team and take part in refinements, reviews and knowledge sharing What you bring: - A completed education at bachelor level or higher, preferably in computer science or a related field - Several years of experience as a mainframe or Cobol developer - Solid knowledge of Cobol, DB2, SQL and JCL; experience with Cics or a scheduling tool is a plus - Strong analytical skills and a structured, quality-driven way of working - Experience with Agile or Scrum and a genuine interest in modern engineering practices - Good command of Dutch and English What our client offers: - A permanent position at an organisation with a clear social mission - A generous individual choice budget on top of your salary, to spend on extra pay, leave or pension - Hybrid working with a modern office location that is easy to reach - An extensive training budget and room to grow towards senior or architect roles - A stable, professional environment where your work directly matters to millions of people Interested?
